Superstar Tom Cruise has swapped Hollywood sets for the rolling Yorkshire Moors.

The star is shooting Mission Impossible 7 on a private railway near Pickering, North Yorkshire, to the shock of locals who saw him landing and taking off in his helicopter – despite previous claims that filming had wrapped.

Sarah Jones, who runs Pear Tree House B&B and Holiday Cottage in Pickering, encountered Cruise as she was out walking her dogs.

Sarah posted on Facebook: ‘We were walking the dogs today and bumped into Tom Cruise. Not only do we love Pickering and our stunning countryside but it was chosen for filming Tom’s new film.’

They were also spotted by Gary Davies and Cheryl-ann Taylor, who run a design studio near Levisham Station on the moors.

They posted: ‘How amazing to walk down to the beautiful Levisham Station, a short walk from the Design Farm Studio and see him and the crew rehearsing a stunt for the new Mission Impossible movie on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

‘At the end of the day he gave us a wave, said ‘see ya tomorrow!’ to the kids then jumped into his helicopter and flew it away himself like an absolute boss! An action hero in every sense of the word!’

Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled to be released in the United States next year.

It was claimed in February that location filming on Mission: Impossible 7 has wrapped after a marathon global schedule interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, Christopher McQuarrie posted that production had wrapped in Abu Dhabi and he was heading ‘back to London for a few finishing touches.’

The delays due to the pandemic, however, mean that star Tom Cruise’s plan to go straight into filming an eighth Mission: Impossible movie have had to be shelved, Deadline.com reported.

M:I-7 is slated for release on November 19.

But before that, Cruise has another major movie opening – his sequel to Top Gun.Top Gun: Maverick is opening in theatres on July 2 and Cruise will be required to be available to promote the movie worldwide.

That means he can’t start making the eighth movie in the Mission: Impossible franchise straight away as he had wanted to.

The eighth film has been listed by Paramount for release in November 4, 2022 but it looks likely that that date will now have to be pushed back.
