Last years Gold Logie winner Tom Glesson has spoken out about this year’s awards ceremony being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 45-year-old joked with Stellar magazine this week that he was responsible for the awards not going ahead this year.

‘Some people in the entertainment industry probably think I started the coronavirus deliberately so there would be no Logies,’ he said.

‘I was trying to be upbeat about the whole thing before it was cancelled. I think in these tough times positivity is in short supply,’ he continued.

 The comedian sparked controversy in June, last year he got drunk and told the whole television industry to ‘lighten the f**k up’. 

With his national comedy tour being cancelled, the funnyman can next be seen in a stand-up comedy series to air on Amazon Prime from April 10.

‘Comedy is escapism and this comedy special is perfect timing,’ he said.

The series will also star some of Australia’s best loved comics including Judith Lucy and  The Project’s Tommy Little.

The Logies ceremony was planned to take place on the Gold Coast on Sunday, June 28, before being cancelled.

However, the voting will go on, with online ballots for popular categories slated to begin in May and it appears that alternative arrangements will be made to give winners their awards.

A statement released last week by Fiona Connolly, Group Publisher at Bauer Media said: ‘We will continue with our nominations announcement and online voting campaign and are working with our partners on a TV broadcast alternative and will advise of those details when we have them.’ 

The Amazon Original stand-up comedy specials will be released every week from April 10 on Amazon Prime Video.
