Tom Gleeson takes ANOTHER cheeky swipe at his critics as he addresses controversial Gold Logie win

Comedian Tom Gleeson divided the room with his Gold Logie acceptance speech in June 2019.

The Hard Quiz host poked fun at the candidates who had sincerely campaigned for the award, and said his victory was a win for ‘taking the p**s’ and ‘not giving a s**t’.

Addressing his controversial win during an appearance on The Sunday Project this week, the 46-year-old couldn’t help but take a cheeky swipe at his critics.

Co-host Tommy Little told Tom that he ‘assumed people who were annoyed’ at his win, would now be ‘ropeable’, considering he got to keep the award for two years.

This year’s Logie Awards were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While Tom did not mention his critics by name, it was quite easy to assume he was referring to his fellow nominees last year, such as radio host Amanda Keller.

‘I don’t know who you are talking about, Tommy, because as far as I know, everyone was very happy with my victory,’ Tom replied sarcastically.

‘I believe there were some people who were upset when I won the gold Logie. A few humourless people who don’t know how to party, probably about three or four people, but lucky due to lockdown, I never had to run into them.’

Fellow 2019 Gold Logie nominee Amanda Keller, 58, admitted on her WSFM radio show in July last year, that she found Tom’s Gold Logie speech upsetting.

‘He’s a comedian and I get what he was doing, which was trying to subvert the result and good luck to him, he did it. That’s how it goes. I have no problem at all with that,’ she said on Jonesy & Amanda.

‘But I think in his speech when he said, “Everyone that works in television, if you want to win this, you’re a wanker”, that kind of upset me.’

Amanda felt he was being ‘unnecessarily mean’ to Grant Denyer, who won the previous year’s Gold Logie.

She continued: ‘[Tom] said, “Yeah I won it last year for Grant, and sucker, now I’ve done it on my own for me!” That’s not fair to Grant, he won that last year on his own two feet.’

‘[I have] no problem with Tom, but it gave everyone permission to say, “Yeah, you’re all up yourself, this is all a big joke”. And it wasn’t a joke to me.

‘I don’t know why we’re embarrassed in television to be proud of our work.’
