Huge fire breaks out on freight train near Sevenoaks in Kent as services are cancelled while firefighters tackle blaze

A huge fire broke on a freight train near Sevenoaks in Kent today, with services cancelled while firefighters contained the blaze.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a goods train alight near Dunton Green train station at around 5.15am.

Six fire engines were at the scene, alongside other agencies and emergency services, a statement by the service has said.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked hard in difficult conditions to contain and control the fire with a special foam designed to smother the flames. 

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire has not been established. 

The fire service has urged people in the area to close windows and doors due to the smoke plume, and to avoid the area if possible. 

Disruption to train services is expected to last until at least 12pm after all trains between Orpington and Sevenoaks were suspended. Rail replacement buses continue to operate.
