Trisha Yearwood tells Kelly Clarkson that she has not regained her senses of taste or smell

Trisha Yearwood has not regained her senses of taste or smell after overcoming COVID-19, which she was diagnosed with in February.

The 56-year-old country artist made an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show and discussed her experience two months after contracting the coronavirus.

Since U Been Gone songwriter Clarkson pointed out that her guest was looking different these days and asked her what her secret was.

Clarkson noted, ‘You are losing weight in COVID; I gained weight, I found it. What are you doing?’

Yearwood responded by noting that she had been wearing ‘Spanx and also I lost my taste and smell, so food is kind of different right now.’

The She’s In Love With The Boy songwriter recalled that she first noted that she had lost two of her senses after interacting with her husband, Garth Brooks.

‘About five days in, I’m like, “honey,” because Garth makes my coffee every morning, “this is weak coffee…I love you, but did you put coffee in here?” It was just like that,’ she said.

Yearwood also told Clarkson that it had been ‘about eight weeks’ since she was last able to smell or taste anything.

The songwriter went on to note that her eating habits had changed ever since she lost two of her senses, stating, ‘It’s really weird, I think this is how normal people eat, so I think they eat when they’re hungry… and then they stop when they’re full.’

The hitmaker then noted that she had adjusted her methods of food preparation in order to compensate for her dulled taste and smell.

‘Now it’s all about texture. I can tell if something’s spicy, that’s about it…I love to cook so now when I cook I just ask Garth, “tell me if it needs more salt and pepper.” It’s the weirdest thing,’ she said.

When the show’s 39-year-old host remarked that Brooks had managed to avoid contracting COVID-19, Yearwood humorously expressed that her husband was ‘an alien and I think we proved this.’

The singer also recalled that she forced her spouse to keep his distance as she battled the coronavirus, as she did not want to make the situation any direr than it already was.

‘I’m like, “you have to get away from me, you have to quarantine in another room…I cannot give Garth Brooks COVID, like you can’t get it,”‘ she stated.

Yearwood also told Clarkson that her 59-year-old husband felt no side effects after receiving his vaccinations, which she explained by jokingly noting that he was an extraterrestrial being.

‘He had the vaccine, he didn’t have a sore arm…I knew he wasn’t normal, but he’s just an alien,’ the songwriter remarked.

The Walkaway Joe singer and her husband have been romantically connected ever since 2002, although they had been friends for many years before then.

The country artist also became a stepmother to Brooks’ three children, whom he welcomed with his first wife, Sandy Mahl.

Prior to tying the knot with the Grammy-winning singer, Yearwood was married to Chris Latham from 1987 until 1991, and she was subsequently involved with bassist Bobby Reynolds until their divorce in 1999.
