Vegan bride frustrated after her fiance’s parents refuse to add meat-free options to wedding menu

‘They said to eat around the meat’: Vegan bride is upset after her in-laws refuse to cater to her diet at her wedding because ‘they’re paying’

  • A vegan bride has been left frustrated after in-laws refuse to cater for her diet
  • They say she should eat around the meat on her wedding day as they are paying
  • But they have been slammed by other brides who say it is not their day

A vegan bride has described the moment her in-laws told her she would have to ‘eat around the meat’ on her wedding day because they were paying for the catering.

The frustrated woman said the ‘meat-obsessed’ family are insisting to pay for the wedding dinner but won’t allow her to choose any plant-based options for the menu.

She posted on a wedding forum on Facebook to vent about the situation and to ask for advice.

‘They always make jokes about me being vegan which I let go over my head and usually results in me sorting out my own food if we have dinner together,’ she said.

The woman’s future husband refuses to stand up to his family for her.

‘My fiancé always stays quiet and never sticks up for me,’ she complained.

But her future family have been slammed for being ‘out of line’ by hundreds of other bride-to-be’s.

‘They don’t respect what you like to eat and your fiancé doesn’t stick for you either,’ wrote one woman.

‘Stand your ground and stick up for your rights. It’s your wedding day and you should have the final say in EVERYTHING. If they can’t respect that then maybe you’re marrying into the wrong family,’ said another.

‘Your in-laws don’t sound like very nice people. Stand your ground now otherwise you’ll have a lifetime of being railroaded.’

Some told her she should only have vegan options instead.

‘Tell them thank you, but no thank you. Then cater strictly vegan meals and be happy,’ advised one woman.

‘I’d pay for the food myself if they’re gonna be insensitive to your choice of foods.’

Others took aim at her partner for failing to support her.

‘A man who loves you truly would consider and will support you whatever you want on your wedding agenda,’ one woman said.

‘Fiancé either needs to step up and support YOU, it’s not even about the food, or you need to hit the big STOP button on everything,’ another stressed.

Others said the food isn’t the real issue.

‘This is all about the power dynamics operating in the family you are about to marry into. Name it and sort it now if you can – maybe with a counsellor. It’s not about the food,’ one woman added.

Others told her there isn’t really any dilemma – she just needs to decline their offer to cater.

‘You are allowed to say no, or say yes with qualifiers, like, ‘thank you for the offer, but if you do pay, we will still be deciding all aspects of the menu’.’
