Temperatures in the area reached 23 degrees on Wednesday, prompting the crowd to accuse the dog owner of ‘cruelty’.

As he walked towards the car a woman shouted: ‘Is this your dog? ‘Get it taken home before I ring the police. It’s been there for two hours. Bloody ridiculous.’

The woman kept shouting, while the man paid her no attention.

She accused him of being cruel, but the man insisted he had been returning to his car to check on the pet.

He became increasingly angry as the accusations continued, before suddenly launching a kick at the man filming, Alun Elder-Brown.

He then pushed the woman away as she keeps telling him to get the dog out of the car.

Eventually he removed the dog from the car and Mr Elder-Brown told the man that he is registered blind.

At this point, more people appeared telling him to ‘f*** off’ and he filled up a dish with water for the dog.

The dog was then seen lapping up the water, before his owner took him on a walk.

Mr Elder-Brown said the man was reported under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, but he chose not to pursue an assault charge.

He shared the video on Facebook, saying: ‘Dog left for an hour and a half in a pub car park in soaring heat.

‘The owner, who has been reported to the police under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, then assaulted me. The police were called, not by me but a lady bystander.

‘The policewoman informed me he would most definitely be reported for the crime of animal cruelty, though I am not pursing the assault. I only showed up towards the later stages of this situation.’

Sussex Police told MailOnline: ‘Police received a report that a man had been assaulted after confronting a man about leaving his dog in a hot car outside a pub in Normans Bay, Pevensey, on Wednesday, July 29.

‘It was reported that the vehicle had left the location and the victim did not want to pursue any further action.’

The force said it was examining the incident further to ensure no animal welfare offences have been committed the welfare of the dog.
