Wayne and Coleen Rooney treat son Klay as they celebrate his 7th birthday

Wayne and Coleen Rooney made sure their son Klay had a birthday to remember on Thursday as he turned 7.

The couple’s second eldest son may not be able to have a party with his friends for his big day but his footballer dad and doting mum pulled out all the stops at their Cheshire home.

Coleen shared a snap of Klay surrounded by a huge pile of presents as she wished ‘our boy with a big, big heart’ many happy returns.

While his dad his a football legend, Klay’s passions appear to lie in other sports as he was dressed in a brand new kit from top basketball team the Los Angeles Lakers for his birthday.

Huge cut-outs of WWE wrestlers John Cena and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson were also in the photo, while blue balloons spelled out the birthday boy’s name and age.

Cards covered in family photos also covered the floor along with gadgets and sports wear.

‘Our boy with a big, big heart is 7 today. Happy Birthday Klay, we love you,’ Coleen captioned the photo.

Coleen, Wayne and their four sons Kai, 10, Klay, Kit, four and baby Cass are spending lockdown in a £5million house, while work has recently restarted on their nearby Cheshire mansion.

The new family home will be perfect for Wayne and his sports-mad sons, with reports this week claiming the star is planning to build a golf course in the 120 acre grounds of his sprawling new country pad.

The football ace, 34, is believed to have asked for full-length holes and a pitch and putt course and a driving range to be built on his property, according to the Sun.

Wayne and his wife Coleen, 34, already have a football pitch and two fishing lakes in the grounds of the plot, which they purchased for £4.3million.

A source told the website: ‘Wayne is golf mad and his older sons enjoy the game as well, he’s got a little putting area at his current place.

‘But with all the land available at his new place, the gardeners and designers will have free rein.

‘He wants a couple of full-length holes with bunkers, water features, buggies — the lot.’

MailOnline have contacted Wayne’s rep for comment.

Builders returned to work on Wayne and Coleen’s new mansion in Cheshire on Wednesday, after construction came to a halt because of the pandemic.

Work on the estate near Knutsford stopped last month due to concerns around building supply deliveries, as lockdown restrictions came into full force.

The family home will have its own orangery, snooker room with bar, cinema and swimming pool when construction is finished.

Safety precautions are being taken after the family suffered an attempted burglary at their old £6million home in 2016 while he was playing a football match.

The couple reportedly paid a Cheshire property more than £4million to build their dream three-storey home in 2017, kitted out with state-of-the-art security features.

The Rooneys were hoping to be in their new home this month, after the English Football League had ended. But the pandemic has left League bosses with problems in setting a new date for the season’s conclusion.

A source close to the footballer claimed the family had not planned to move in ‘for a significant while yet’.
