Why Scott Morrison finally agreed to an interview with Kyle and Jackie O: Prime Minister explains shock U-turn after refusing invitation for three years

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was subjected to a rather awkward line of questioning during his first ever interview with KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie O Show on Wednesday.

Morrison was put on the spot minutes into his interview after co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson boldly asked why he’d refused offers to appear on the breakfast show until now.

‘Can I ask, Prime Minister, why have you never come on our show?’ Henderson asked, prompting a chuckle from her co-host Kyle Sandilands.

‘Well I was waiting for you to be number one,’ Morrison cheekily replied, referring to the KIIS FM duo’s recent ratings victory over 2GB’s Ben Fordham.

Sandilands exploded in laughter, roaring: ‘He’s got us there! He didn’t want to go on with any losers, I get that.’

‘Congratulations’, Morrison exclaimed.

Jackie wasn’t sold on Morrison’s response, however, retorting: ‘You’ve been on shows that haven’t been number one before as well.’

In true politician style, Morrison quickly side-stepped the question by changing the topic, responding: ‘Well here we are, and we’re in the middle of pandemic and I think it’s really important that I take every opportunity… to encourage people through this.’

Morrison’s debut on The Kyle And Jackie O show comes a year after Sandilands controversially branded him a ‘scardy cat’ for refusing to appear on his radio program.

No holds barred: In the past Sandilands has called Morrison a variety of colourful names, including 'gronk', 'p***y', 'a slob', 'white and wobbly', as well as a 'gutless little toad'

At the time, the shock jock announced that he would donate $30,000 to charity if the Prime Minister called into the radio station before 8.30am on Wednesday, but it was radio silence from Mr Morrison’s end.

‘This guy’s a scaredy cat,’ Sandilands remarked, ‘why won’t you come on here?’

Sandilands said his radio show’s producers have invited Mr Morrison to appear on the show on several occasions in past but the Prime Minister has always rejected the offer.
