Woman, 43, dies in house fire and girl, 16, is seriously injured in hospital as firefighters probe cause of blaze

A 43-year-old woman has died following a house fire in Dudley yesterday while a 16-year-old girl remains in hospital seriously injured.

Three people were pulled from the two-storey home in Beacon Lane by firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service at around 3.45pm.  

The 43-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene while a 49-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were taken to hospital. 

The man was released a short while later after being checked over. The teenage girl remains in hospital with serious injuries.

In a statement today, West Midlands Police said the circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated.

Neighbours are said to have rushed to help running over to the property when the blaze broke out. 

Pictures show upstairs and downstairs windows completely blown out and hanging from the brickwork. Black scorch marks can also be seen covering the front and back windows of the house. 

The fire service shared photos showing a ladder leading to the first-floor windows of the scorched house.

Detective Inspector Carla Thompson said: ‘We are working closely with the fire service to determine what happened. I would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

‘Our thoughts are with the family of the woman at this difficult time who are being supported by specialist officers.’ 

West Midlands Fire Service tweeted: ‘We have attended a severe house fire in Beacon lane Sedgley with the 1st fire engine arriving in 3min 38 sec.

‘3 people were rescued by firefighters & then assisted by West Midlands Ambulance Service and treated at the scene.

‘We now have investigation officers from fire and West Midlands Police in attendance.’

Dudley North MP Marco Longhi wrote on Facebook: ‘I have been made aware of a very serious incident in Sedgley.

‘There are ongoing investigations and my office stands ready to support in any way that may be necessary. ‘
