A British Airways worker was shocked to discover her £480 iPhone 8 still worked – two months after it slipped out of her pocket into the River Thames.

Thayse Bussolo-Vieira, 29, took a trip to the riverside in Staines, Surrey, at the start of February to feed the swans when the phone dropped out of her coat and into the water.

She returned to the same area last Wednesday with her fiancee James Tongue, 27, and found the mobile phone lying at the bottom of the river.

They fished out the device, which contains over 2,000 photos, using a broom with a sieve attached to the end.

The pair were left astounded after discovering the iPhone still worked after charging and drying it in a bowl of rice.

According to The Sun, Ms Bussolo-Vieira said: ‘It turned on. I was like “yay, it’s working”. I could not believe it.

‘I was so pleased I got my photos back. I thought they were gone forever.’

The British Airways administrator said she spotted the iPhone sitting at the bottom of the river ‘like a rock’ as the water was so clear, compared to when she dropped it two months beforehand.

Initially she considered retrieving the mobile phone, but decided not to as the river was ‘high and strong’.

She added: ‘Of course we didn’t expect it to work.’
