BRUNNER INVESTMENT TRUST: Global ‘one-stop shop’ founded in 1927 has paid rising dividends for 47 years

WHAT IS IT?

The Brunner Investment Trust, run by Allianz Global Investors, calls itself a ‘one-stop shop’ for investors who want access to global growth companies and rising dividends. It has been operating since 1927, and has paid rising dividends for 47 years.

 WHAT DOES IT INVEST IN?

Brunner has the ability to invest all over the world, and its biggest exposure is to the US where the tech giants are based. Its largest holdings include Microsoft and Swiss medical group Roche.

WHAT DO THE EXPERTS LIKE?

Laura Suter, personal finance analyst at AJ Bell, says: ‘With income hard to find at the moment amid a wave of dividend cuts or deferrals, investment trusts with an income focus could shine.

‘Trusts are able to withhold up to 15 per cent of their income from previous years to supplement payouts in leaner years.’

ANY DOWNSIDES?

Lucy Macdonald, who has been at the helm of the trust for 15 years, has just announced she is leaving.

Suter said: ‘There’s no sign the trust’s investment style will change, but this is still a source of uncertainty or investors.’
