David Campbell shares an update on his father Jimmy Barnes health after hospitalisation

David Campbell didn’t realise his father Jimmy Barnes had been rushed to hospital until the rock star, 64, posted about it on Instagram

David Campbell has given an update on his father Jimmy Barnes’ health, following the rock star’s shock hospitalisation on Monday night.

The Today Extra host, 46, revealed on Wednesday’s show that Jimmy, 64, had come down with a nasty stomach bug, but thankfully has since recovered.

‘He’s absolutely fine, I spoke to him last night,’ David explained.

‘Although, like everybody else here, I didn’t find out until it went up on Instagram. That was a sign that I knew he was OK’, David confirmed. 

Describing how Jimmy ended up in the emergency room, David explained: ‘He just had a stomach bug that went really really bad.’

‘They were worried about it, he went to hospital and he was out within a few hours,’ he concluded.

The Cold Chisel frontman was rushed to the emergency room at Sydney’s St Vincent Hospital on Monday after being rushed there by his partner Jane Mahoney.  

On Tuesday, Jimmy detailed his health scare on Twitter, writing: ‘I spent last night in ER at St Vincent Hospital and I want to thank the amazing staff who took care of me. This song (see next post) is for them and my best friend.’ 

Jimmy later uploaded a video of himself telling fans that his hospital stay was not related to coronavirus.

‘I had an unexpected visit to St Vincent’s Emergency last night… I was a bit crook non COVID-related,’ he said in the clip.  

The video also saw Jimmy dedicate a song to hospital staff and family who helped him during the ordeal. 

Performing alongside his partner Jane and daughter Elly-May Barnes, Jimmy gave a heartwarming rendition of the Beatles Classic, With a Little Help From My Friends.

St Vincent Hospital director of public affairs David Fakto said hospital staff were delighted to help out, telling Herald Sun: ‘It’s always great for our hardworking staff to get such heartfelt patient feedback.’ 

‘But it’s doubly special coming from an Aussie rock legend.’  

Hundreds of fans sent messages of support on social media, including several high profile followers.

‘Get well soon Jimmy and sending lots of hugs to Jane too,’ Studio 10 Host Angela Bishop wrote, while ABC personality Myf Warhurst penned: ‘Get well soon Jimmy!’
