Elsa McAlonan’s Beauty Upgrades: How to achieve a flawless look with Zara Beauty

What’s now & how to do it… ZARA BEAUTY

Zara’s first full make-up range, featuring 132 refillable products, goes on sale this Wednesday, and I predict a stampede. Developed by Diane Kendal, the visionary behind Marc Jacobs Beauty, the vegan collection looks expensive but thankfully isn’t.

The Eye Color In 6 palette (£17.99, or £3.99 for refills, zara.com) comes in five colourways, while the Refillable Eyeliner in Inky Dark (£7.99) has an ultra-fine precision brush.

There are 40 shades of nail polish (£5.99) with matte, pearly and glitter finishes, as well as satin and matte lipsticks (£9.99). The range will be available online and in Zara’s Bond Street store in London.

RACE YOU THERE

Now hair salons are open, your roots might be tip-top once more, but to help keep them that way, try the new Primark Andrew Fitzsimons Root Concealer (£3, in-store nationwide only).

A dead ringer for the Color Wow Root Cover Up (£28.50, lookfantastic.com), the high-pigment, buildable powder offers an easy touch-up for grey hair and root regrowth. It’s part of a collaboration with celebrity hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons, and comes in a choice of shades from dark blonde and brown to auburn and black.

Secret to Kate’s glossy locks

She’s famous for her glossy hair, so when news broke that the Duchess of Cambridge uses Kiehl’s Creme With Silk Groom (£25.90, escentual.com) to keep it looking sleek and shiny, it’s little wonder it sold out almost instantly.

The non-greasy styling cream, formulated with silk powders and conditioning jojoba oil, smooths away frizz, leaving you with hair fit for a princess.

THIS WORKS

The gold standard of single-dose skincare capsules is Elizabeth Arden’s Advanced Ceramide Capsules (£43 for 30 capsules). Now No 7 has launched its own version: Advanced Ingredients Facial Capsules (£20 for 30 capsules, boots.com). Having tried these for a month, they definitely help to reduce the look of wrinkles, leaving skin firmer and softer.

Can I sanitiser-proof my nails?

Sally Hansen nail expert Imarni Ashman says, ¿Keep your hands and nails moisturised after sanitising with a rich hand cream to prevent drying and cracking.¿

Essential as it is, hand sanitiser can damage your nails due to its high alcohol content.

She also recommends applying thin coats of polish and cuticle oil once a day. To strengthen nails, try Sally Hansen Nail Treatment Hard As Nails (£5.99, superdrug.com, left), which contains moisturising omega 3 to help ease the look of ridges and prevent peeling.

Or, to protect your manicure against the frequent use of hand sanitiser, try the new Barry M Sanitiser Proof Topcoat (£3.99, barrym.com), which gives nails a gel-look shine.

SHAMELESS INDULGENCE

Given current holiday prospects involve battling the elements on a British beach, is it any wonder scents that sound like summer in a bottle — such as the new Tom Ford Soleil Brulant Eau de Parfum (£228 for 50ml, tomford.co.uk) — are more enticing than ever?

The third Soleil scent in the designer’s Private Blend collection (following Soleil Blanc and Soleil Neige) is a sophisticated mix of mandarin, bergamot, and spicy pink peppercorn.

The heart of orange flower absolute and black honey is complemented by a base of amber, wood, leather and vetiver notes which add warmth. It’s a fresh, light, unisex scent, and doesn’t wear off after the first spray. And nor should it at that price!
