Heartwarming moment a bird ‘revives’ another blue tit after it flew into a window

  • The poignant footage was captured by Yvonne Clifford from Limerick, Ireland
  • The rescuer bird appears to be assessing the extent of the victim’s injuries
  • Using its beak, the bird examines injured bird, revives it  before both take flight

This poignant footage was captured by Yvonne Clifford through her glass patio door from inside her home in Limerick, Ireland.

The stunned bird is seen lying on its back in the middle of a grey garden table with a second ‘rescuer’ bird circulating around it.

It appears to be assessing the extent of the victim’s injuries as it tries to figure out how to help.

The distressed blue tit closes up on the injured bird from several angles, pecks and nudges it until it moves its legs.

The ‘patient’ eventually flips over from it’s back on to its front and after a few more nudges appears to make a remarkable recovery as it flutters its wings and the two birds fly off.

Others commented on how heart-breaking it was to hear an all-too familiar dull thud, and running out to discover a dusty, bird-shaped imprint on a window.

A number of users offered suggestions on preventing the same happening again.

Anna Fijalkowska commented: ‘With windows this big, it was probably not the first time. If you want to prevent birds from hitting your windows, you could buy some stickers shaped like birds of prey and put them on your windows. They are not too big, one colour and can prevent birds from dying.’

Birds eyes are on the sides of their heads which gives them extremely wide-angle vision.

It’s extremely useful in spotting approaching predators or potential mates but not so good for focusing on something directly in front of them.

However, preventing bird collisions is relatively simple. A few stickers or transfers on the glass show birds that there is something in their path.
