Lucy Hale had an unexpectedly dark week after she she revealed she lost a close friend who had struggled with addiction.

On Wednesday, the 31-year-old Pretty Little Liars actress was seen trying to keep her spirits high as she stepped out for some coffee in West Hollywood.

Rocking a casual athletic look for the outing, she sported a pair of green bike shorts and a retro hoodie as she walked to her G-Wagon.

Showing off her toned legs in the tiny pair of emerald shorts she kept herself warm on top with a white hoodie that featured navy sleeves.

She rocked an eye-catching pair of rainbow Nikes and kept herself protected in a black face mask as she strolled to her vehicle.

Hair tied back in a low bun, she flashed her extensive piercings which she adorned with a variety of hoops.

As she got into her black Mercedes SUV, she looked dewy in the sunlight as she opted for a no makeup look.

Prior to her coffee jaunt she had joined a group of pals for lunch as they picked up some takeaway.

Though she started her 2021 off on a high note as she hosted Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve alongside Ryan Seacrest in Times Square, things took a dark turn for the actress on Monday.

Getting news that her longtime friend Drew had passed, she penned a lengthy tribute to him on social media Tuesday.

‘Drew & I had been buds since we were teens. He was one of my first friends in LA and we grew up together.’

‘If you knew him, you know that he was mind numbingly funny and had the most incredible spirit. The kind of humour that brought you to your knees.’

She continued to say, ‘Very rarely do you have a connection with someone where you don’t have to say a word.’

‘Even when he couldn’t see how magnificent he was, he made others feel seen and heard. Thank you for the ear I needed when I was struggling, the shoulder I needed when I felt like no one understood me.’

Hale signed off, ‘I will miss you forever and I’ll see you on the other side sweet one and I know you are finally at peace,’ as it was revealed that he had struggled with addiction.

With a number of people battling with mental health and addiction – which has only been heightened amid the isolating pandemic – the loss hits home for many.

There seems to be no end in sight despite the arrival of the vaccine, as rising COVID-19 cases continue to plague Los Angeles with a new winter surge that has now made healthcare resources scarce.

Trying to keep her mind off of her sorrow she has been spotted out in recent days going for walks outside with her dog and leaning on friends who knew her late friend well.

Ahead of the new year Hale recently wrapped her upcoming film Hating Game – based on the novel of the same name by Sally Thorne – about a brewing romance amid a fierce work rivalry.
