Married At First Sight: Why groom Chris Jensen WASN’T at the reunion

Did you notice the Married At First Sight groom was MISSING from the reunion? Chris Jensen failed to attend the explosive finale… and here’s the surprising reason why

The Married At First Sight reunion on Sunday night was filled with explosive arguments, cheating scandals and heart-warming love stories.

But one groom who was noticeably absent was fan-favourite Chris Jensen, who failed to rock up to the finale – despite his jilted bride Jaimie Gardner attending.

According to a source, the 32-year-old FIFO worker decided not to attend to avoid coming face-to-face with his ex-bride, as he ‘didn’t want to put himself in a position’ to be involved in a confrontation with Jaimie again.

Despite the show thriving on drama – and seeing the likes of Bryce Ruthven and Rebecca Zemek being grilled over their rumoured cheating scandals – Chris decided he didn’t want the negativity that attending Sunday’s episode would bring.

‘He doesn’t want to see her again. He’s not the sort of person that likes to purposely walk into confrontation. It’s the complete opposite of what he stands for,’ a source told Daily Mail Australia.

Chris was a late-comer to this year’s series, and sensationally walked out on Jaimie after accusing her of wanting to fake their marriage for the camera.

‘Jaimie tried to convince him to stay and begged him to stop being too nice to make her attitude and what she was saying about him look okay.’

The source went on to say Chris was ‘devastated’ to have been paired up with Jaimie.

‘His intentions for signing up for MAFS were for the right reasons. He didn’t care [for fame] and wasn’t expecting his past to be resurfaced.’

They went on to say, ‘Chris had 138 followers on Instagram before the show, and if any charity work came his way in the future, sure he will put his hand up.’

It’s understood that Chris’s decision to ‘politely decline’ the invitation to return was no surprise for producers, after they willingly let Chris walk away from the show.

The news comes just weeks after news broke that Chris was arrested on drugs charges prior to his appearance on Married At First Sight.

The reality star faces one count of trafficking dangerous drugs – serious organised crime.

He was due to appear for a mention before Brisbane Supreme Court last month, but the matter was adjourned until April 23.

Chris had previously been granted Supreme Court Bail, The Courier Mail reported.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia last month, Queensland Courts and the Department of Justice and Attorney-General confirmed the charges.

He was arrested alongside three co-accused, who are all facing similar charges.

A Brisbane Magistrates Court spokesman told The Courier Mail that Chris last appeared in court before on October 30, 2020, after being granted magistrates bail in 2018.

During his last appearance his bail was enlarged, and the matter was adjourned to July 23.

Chris also faces single charges of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in commission of a crime, possessing used utensils or pipes and two counts of possessing property suspected of being proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act.
