Pete Murray has revealed how his father’s tragic death motivated him to start his music career. 

Speaking to the the Daily Telegraph on Saturday, the 50-year-old singer explained his father died from a heart attack at the of 47.

Only a teenager at the time, Pete felt ‘angry’ because he thought his father had been ‘ripped off’ when his life was taken too soon.

‘He was only 47, from that moment I remember saying to myself, “I don’t want this to happen to me”,’ Pete explained.

He added: ‘He was about to retire. He had worked his whole life and he was about to go on a caravan trip around Australia with my mum.

‘That annoyed me, I was angry about it. I thought he got ripped off. I thought, ‘I’m going to make sure I have a good life and enjoy it. Music kicked in later, it was about lifestyle for me; it wasn’t about being super rich.’

Despite his musical accomplishments, Pete told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday his greatest achievement was his three children: Charlie, 13, Pedro, 10, and Saachi, two.

‘Being a dad is the best thing that you will ever do. It is by far my greatest achievement,’ he said.

‘The moment that you hold your children for the first time is an incredible thing,’ he continued, before adding: ‘It is a different love to anything else.’ 

In his new video for Found My Place, Pete gives his fans a rare look into his family life. 

The clip features his adorable daughter Saachi, and photographer wife Mira Eady.

Filmed during isolation in his hometown of Byron Bay, Pete and his family are seen enjoying life on a local beach at sunset. 

‘[It] was a last minute decision to get my wife Mira and daughter Saachi in for the shoot,’ he explained.

‘I’m very protective of my family and keep my family life very private,’ he added.
