Priyanka Chopra shares touching tattoo story about late father Ashok Chopra while promoting memoir

Priyanka Chopra shared a touching story about her late father Ashok Chopra on Tuesday while promoting her new memoir Unfinished.

The 38-year-old actress during a remote appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon told how she wrote the 256-page book during the coronavirus quarantine.

Jimmy, 46, held up the cover of the book released Tuesday by Ballantine Books and asked Priyanka if she could share the story about the tattoo visible on her arm in the cover photo. 

‘I mean, I get emotional thinking about it myself,’ Jimmy said.

‘I was very close to my father. He was my greatest champion, my biggest chearleader, like the loudest guy in the room. If I’d win an award, he’d be like, ”Ahhh!!” and I had to tell him, ”Dad, you gotta play it cool now.” But dad didn’t know how to, he was just so excited about everything that I did,’ Priyanka said.

‘And when he died, it was just quiet in that corner, in that corner of cheer. Even though I have a very supportive family, but they weren’t all as rambunctious as him,’ she said of her father Ashok who died in 2013 at age 64 after a long battle with cancer.

Priyanka, who wore a floral print long-sleeved outfit with red roses, then pointed to a tattoo on her right forearm reading ‘Daddy’s little girl’.

‘And this tattoo, I got it about a year or two before my dad passed, and I lied to him and I told him I needed him to write this down because I wanted it for artwork for my album. But he wrote it in his handwriting, and it’s my first tattoo and, you know, now I have it here with me,’ Priyanka said.

‘Daddy’s little girl. I just thought it was so cool and a great way to remember him,’ Jimmy said.

Jimmy noted that Ashok was rooting for her now with the publication of her memoir as well as her multiple movie projects.

Priyanka has been married since 2018 to singer Nick Jonas, 28.

She recently executive produced and starred in The White Tiger that was released last month on Netflix and can be seen in the upcoming sequel Matrix 4 due out in December.

Priyanka has been in London where she is working on her Amazon Prime Video series Citadel that she stars in along with Scottish actor Richard Madden, 34, best known for his portrayal of Robb Stark on Game Of Thrones.

Jimmy has not let the coronavirus pandemic stop him from playing games with his virtual guests and played a game called One Word Songs with Priyanka via Zoom.
