Salma Hayek shares her obsession with owls on CBS talk show while promoting new streaming film Bliss

Salma Hayek shared her obsession with owls Wednesday while promoting her latest movie Bliss on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The 54-year-old actress appeared remotely from London on the CBS talk show and Stephen, 56, asked the animal lover how many pets she had while showing a photo of her walking her dogs in a park.

‘I love animals. I have a lot of them. In London, I have three, two dogs and one owl,’ she revealed. ‘The owl is there with the dogs’.

Stephen was surprised as he then noticed a small owl perched on her shoulder.

‘Are you a student at Hogwarts?,’ Stephen asked, referencing the fictional British boarding school of magic  from the Harry Potter series that featured message-carrying owls.

Salma said the owl’s name was Kering and Stephen asked her why did she have an owl.

‘I don’t know, I became obsessed with the owls and dreaming about it. I didn’t understand they were everywhere. And I said ”can people have owls?” And it turns out you can in London. It’s legal. And I said are there any owls that need some rescue? Can you rescue an owl? And I started doing some research. And, yeah, sure enough,’ Salma said.

Stephen then asked Salma to explain a photo of her owl standing on top of her head.

‘It’s disgusting,’ Salma said. ‘He never, it’s the only time he’s ever done that. I mean, she’s amazing, because it’s a female. But, you know, sometimes they bring you gifts that you don’t necessarily know what to do with.’

‘What is that?,’ Stephen asked.

‘It’s a mouse. That’s what they eat,’ she explained.

‘And she ate it on your head?,’ Stephen wondered.

‘Yeah, she landed on my head with it. And I got her off, because that’s where I draw the line,’ Salma said.

Salma said the owl sleeps in her room at night and flies around while she’s sleeping.

The actress admitted that her 13-year-old daughter Valentina does not like the owl.

‘There are a lot of people in the house who don’t like the owl. And also she’s very quiet, and you don’t know she’s there, and she flies, and everybody screams. I love it when they scream. Isn’t it fantastic to see the reaction of people when they are afraid of something that is not going to harm them?,’ Salma said.

The actress also shared a clip of her new sci-fil film Bliss that also stars Owen Wilson, 52.

Bliss will premiere Friday with distribution by Amazon Studios.
