SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Gary Lineker’s little brother calls time on bar firm over £100k debt

Having trousered millions from licence fee payers over the years, couldn’t BBC star Gary Lineker lend his younger brother a few quid to settle his bills?

I hear Wayne Lineker has put one of his bar businesses into administration £100,000 in debt.

Duane International Ltd owes employees £9,530 in unpaid wages, with the rest owed to a business partner and a bank.

Wayne, 58, who is currently appearing on the reality television show Celebs Go Dating, has appointed a liquidator to close down the company.

He and his son Duane are directors of Linekers (UK) Ltd, which changed its name to Duane International Ltd last August. Official paperwork describes the company as ‘licensed clubs, public houses and bars’.

Wayne has several bar businesses in Britain, including in Blackpool and Essex. Liquidators confirmed the company was £99,120 in the red and had no assets to cover the debts.

The revelation caps a miserable time for Wayne, who left the Spanish party island of Ibiza last September after his nightclubs were closed because of the pandemic.

He suffered an outbreak of Covid-19 at his beloved Lineker’s bar. He closed all venues in the Lineker’s Group for the remainder of 2020, shuttering bars and clubs in Spain, Tenerife and in Greece.

Meanwhile, a former professional footballer left paralysed in a swimming pool fall at an Ibiza nightclub owned by Wayne has been given the go-ahead to bring an £8.5 million damages claim in the English courts.

Jonathan Hutchinson was found floating in the pool by fellow revellers at the O Beach Ibiza in San Antonio in 2016.

Wayne Lineker sparked social media outrage last year when he posted an astonishing list of criteria for potential girlfriends, with the hashtag #wifeywhereyouat.

As well as his prospective lover having to be a ‘worldie’ (ladspeak for extremely attractive) and considerably younger than him, the wishlist included being ‘prepared to give up your career or job’, ‘able to cook’, and, bizarrely, to know where the city of Lincoln is.

Lineker declines to comment.

Aitken gives funeral address for fellow ex-inmate

Former Cabinet minister turned priest Jonathan Aitken gave the address at the Essex funeral yesterday of his fellow ex-inmate — Ron Groves.

Aitken met him in 1999 at HMP Standford Hill. ‘He was serving an eight-year sentence for drug smuggling,’ Aitken, who’d been convicted of perjury, tells me.

Groves also introduced him to ‘Mr Dipper’ who ‘gave me a warm handshake — so warm that he removed my wristwatch without me feeling or knowing it’.

The 48-year-old former Strictly star proposed to the American financier, 35, nearly two weeks ago after meeting her at Cambridge in 2018, where he was studying human evolution and she was training for an MBA.

Matching in black as they walked his new pug dog in West London, Jordan, who will be James’s second wife following his 16-year marriage to TV host Beverley Turner, stood out as she flashed her diamond engagement ring.

‘James has an amazing personality. He’s funny and kind,’ says Jordan. ‘It’s the little things like going out to track down a bar of Hershey’s chocolate for me.’

James and Beverley, the mother of his three children, divorced in 2019, a year after they split. Beverley is dating eco-property developer James Pritchett.

Campfire at Loch Muick sparks plea from Balmoral

The Queen will not be amused.

Her private Scottish estate has issued another warning about anti-social behaviour.

Balmoral took to social media after a busy weekend at Loch Muick asking visitors to show more consideration, saying: ‘Parking is extremely limited at the moment due to snow. Many cars became stuck and roads were blocked.’

And posting a picture of the remains of a fire, it added: ‘Please leave no trace when visiting. This campfire was made in the middle of the Loch Muick car park.’

Brrrave Naomi is chilling out

Hollywood star Naomi Watts proves she is a hardy soul after throwing herself into the snow wearing nothing but a swimming costume.

The 52-year-old shared a video — taken by her son Sasha, 13, in an undisclosed location — as she falls backwards into the snow to make an angel shape with her arms and legs.

DIY mishap for Kate’s jeweller

Kate Moss’s favourite jeweller, Stephen Webster, had to use his creativity at his home in West London.

‘I was doing DIY and I slipped. The knife went straight into my thumb,’ says the Mayfair jeweller.

‘I should have gone to hospital, but we’re trying to avoid cluttering up the system. My neighbour said try superglue. We checked and sure enough it was developed to bond tissue. We cleaned it up and ran superglue along the cut. It worked.’

Ouch!

Floods are no joke for Mrs Brand

Chaos has broken out at comedian Russell Brand’s £3.3 million home in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, as his wife, Laura Gallacher, reveals it’s been flooded.

‘I am standing up to my knees in floodwater at home rescuing various things that are floating around, wondering why living by a river I have never invested in waders,’ she said.
