Shawn Mendes has revealed he loved Camila Cabello five years before they began dating.
In an interview with Access Hollywood the singer got candid as he admitted his feelings for the former Fifth Harmony songstress go way back.
He revealed: ‘It takes a lot of courage to tell the woman that you love that you love her. I had five years of fear of getting rejected by her that just stopped me from doing it every time — or just confidence.

‘I think, you know, it just took a lot. It took a long time of preparing. I mean, I had a five-year warmup to finally be able to tell her how I felt!’ he gushed.
Mendes and Cabello started dating in July 2019 after being friends since 2014.
The singer talks openly about his relationship with the Havana hitmaker in his new Netflix documentary, In Wonder, where he admits ‘every song he’s ever written’ has been about the Cuban born beauty.
In a separate chat with Entertainment Tonight, Mendes, 22, said the couple have talked about getting engaged.

‘Yeah, absolutely, I think for me it’s always been if I’m not willing to talk about that stuff then I kind of check out a little bit, and I don’t know, I really think when you know, you know,’
He added, ‘She’s been one of my best friends since I was, like, 15 years old. I don’t know, at the same time, I know we are really young so I don’t want to jump, like, insanely fast, but I think when you find your person, you feel and you know that you have found your person.’
Mendes previously admitted to ET he is ‘pretty mushy’ when it comes to his romance with Cabello, and using their love as inspiration for his music.
He said: ‘I think we are both super sensitive, which creates a lot of sensitivity in our relationship, but we are songwriters, so we are constantly searching for the best topics in life.
‘I don’t know, I am pretty mushy… I feel like she would probably say I am much more mushy.’
