Tourists confused over cover as government extends advice against travel indefinitely

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has extended  its advice against travel indefinitely

Holidaymakers could face more chaos after the government decided to extend its advice against travel indefinitely, experts warn.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) had previously advised against all non-essential global travel until April 16.

This meant holidaymakers booked for travel before that date were legally entitled to claim refunds if they had booked through a travel agent.

Those who had holidays booked for after April 16 were being advised to wait until the Government extended the warning before asking for a refund.

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, says the Government should now set a definitive date to its advice to provide clarity.

But the Association of British Insurers says that most policyholders with cancellation or travel disruption cover will be able claim for cancelled trips that were already booked.
