Bachelor star and astrophysicist Matt Agnew says he’s ‘absolutely delighted’ as he reveals his new job – after surprising fans with his new look

Former Bachelor star Matt Agnew has announced his new role as a mathematics ambassador for the NSW Department of Education.

The astrophysicist, 33, shared a lengthy post on Instagram on Tuesday about his new position, saying how ‘delighted’ he was to raise awareness of the field.

‘Maths has been an integral (pardon the maths pun) part of my professional career,’ he said.

‘But it is important for a much more fundamental reason, that being one’s own confidence,’ he added.

‘Mathematical confidence is critical to help avoid feeling scared of, or just generally disoriented, around numbers.

‘Maths can be intimidating, but we all deserve to feel comfortable and confident in the lives we lead and that means ensuring we have the functional numeracy skills to succeed.’

Matt has recently made headlines for his new look.

Earlier this month, the self-professed ‘space nerd’ superimposed his face on to a Wookiee, a fictional character from the Star Wars franchise.

The post was to celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4.

This is an important date for Star Wars fans because ‘May the fourth’ sounds similar to the film’s famous line ‘May the Force be with you’.

‘Ok, Wookiee is out of the bag,’ the data scientist captioned his photo.

‘My hair growth journey is complete,’ he added.

Last month, Matt made a surprise TV appearance on Today Extra, where he looked remarkably different to how he looked on The Bachelor back in 2019.

Viewers would be forgiven for not recognising the data scientist, who ditched his trademark ‘geeky’ spectacles and clean-cut look in favour of luscious long locks and just a hint of stubble.

Having clearly worked out over lockdown, Matt showed off his noticeably buff physique a crisp white shirt, which he unbuttoned twice to show a hint of chest.

Matt had appeared on Today to discuss NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter landing on Mars – but host David Campbell couldn’t help but ask about his new hairstyle towards the end of the chat.

‘Before you go, quickly, how long will you grow your hair?’ he cheekily asked.

‘I’m thinking I potentially go shoulder length,’ Matt laughed. ‘I’ve got past that really awkward uncomfortable stage, so I’ve got to just push.’

When asked if he was in a relationship, he swiftly responded with: ‘I am single.’

Matt chose chemical engineer Chelsie McLeod as his winner on The Bachelor, but their relationship didn’t last.

The couple confirmed their split two months after the finale airdate, and Chelsie later hinted it wasn’t her decision to end things.
